Front Porch Family: Stagecoach and Steamboat

Last week Nick and I planned a two day camping trip with the girls to Steamboat and Stagecoach Reservoir. Since the High Park fire in Fort Collins (15 or so miles from our house) had the Poudre Canyon and Cameron Pass closed we took another way there, over Trail Ridge Road. It is so beautiful to drive up that canyon and down the other side. It took us almost four hours to get there, but we found a spot and set up camp. We took the girls down to the reservoir to fish.

No luck with the fishing, but what a stunning view! We made a campfire and hung out until bedtime.

The weekend before we left, the girls and I spent time with my cousin and her family. My Uncle Frank was not doing very well and not given much longer to live, so we spent a little time visiting him and unfortunately the day before our trip he passed away. We knew the services would be sometime this week and we found out they would be on Wednesday morning which meant we had to cut our trip short. We only stayed one night and got up the next morning for some fun before our trek back across the mountain. We took the girls on the bike path through Steamboat. It is such a pretty ride and fun too. Danica was scared at first and going SOOO slow, but about three quarters of the way through she figured out it wasn't so bad and not too steep.

Along the path is this cute little garden. Nick and I have passed it many times but never gone in and looked around. We took the girls to explore all the beautiful plants.

Our last stop before riding back to where we parked was the river. The water was so cold, but the girls couldn't resist putting their feet into the water and throwing lots of rocks!
